KAREN THOMPSON

ARTIST STATEMENT: My work in ceramics crosses the divide between fine art & craft. I investigate and explore human nature and present ideas in narrative and satirical form. I use many different methods when making my work choosing the most relevant to the message I am conveying. My range stretches from political and socially engaging installations to playful contemporising of historical pottery, imagery filled large hand-built pots and vessels to delicate slipcast and manipulated porcelain tableware and mugs. The constant throughout is my desire to create distinctive individual statements.

I currently have an Arts Council funded studio residency at Crescent Arts in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
